What can I spend before payday?
KiwiBudget budgets on your actual pay cycle, so the number on screen is what is safe to spend between now and your next pay.
A budgeting app made for how Kiwis get paid
Almost every budgeting app answers for the calendar month. Most New Zealanders are paid weekly or fortnightly. KiwiBudget budgets on your actual pay cycle, so the number on screen is what is safe to spend between now and your next pay.
- Your bank, read only. Connect ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Kiwibank, Westpac or The Co-operative Bank through Akahu, a licensed New Zealand open banking provider. Transactions arrive by themselves, and KiwiBudget never sees your banking login. How bank connections work
- Sorted by a New Zealand merchant list. Spending is matched against our own list of New Zealand merchants, so Pak'nSave is groceries and Z is fuel. AI categories are optional and stay off unless you switch them on.
- Tax codes, student loan and KiwiSaver. The NZ tax calculator works out your real take-home pay on your tax code, including PAYE, the ACC earner levy, student loan and IETC, and you can track your KiwiSaver alongside the rest of your money. Both come with the Student, Pro and Legend plans.
- Made in Invercargill. KiwiBudget is built in Southland by a small New Zealand team, and you can talk to us on 0800 002 798. Meet the team

Before you sign up
- Does KiwiBudget work with my bank?
- KiwiBudget connects through Akahu to ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Kiwibank, Westpac and The Co-operative Bank, and to KiwiSaver providers including Fisher Funds, Milford, Simplicity, Booster, Generate and SuperLife. Which providers you can connect depends on what Akahu supports at the time. On the free plan you can upload a bank statement instead.
- Can I budget weekly or fortnightly?
- Yes. Tell the app how often you are paid and when your last payday was, and your budget runs on that cycle. The home screen counts down to your next payday, not to the end of the month.
- Is it safe to connect my bank?
- Access is read only, through Akahu. KiwiBudget never sees your banking password and cannot make payments or move your money. A second factor, a passkey or an authenticator code, is required before a bank connection can be set up, and you can disconnect at any time. How we keep your data safe
