Sharing KiwiBudget with your family

What happened to the Whānau plan, and how family sharing works instead.

There is no longer a separate family plan. The Whānau plan was withdrawn before launch, so nobody was ever charged for it.

Family sharing is becoming a feature rather than a plan, and it will be free on every plan including Free. Each person keeps their own account and their own bank connection, so a household is a group of ordinary accounts choosing to share, not one subscription with people attached to it.

Why the change

Sharing a budget with someone costs us nothing to provide. Connecting a bank does, because our open banking provider charges per connected person. Putting the price on the sharing meant charging for the part that was free and giving away the part that was not.

Pricing the bank connection directly is fairer: you pay for what you actually use, and a family of five is not quietly subsidised by everyone else.

When it arrives

Family sharing is in development and lands after the 16 November 2026 launch. Until then, each person can use KiwiBudget individually on any plan.
