Two-factor authentication (2FA)

Set up an authenticator app and keep your account locked down.

Two-factor authentication adds a 6 digit code from an authenticator app on top of your password. It is required before connecting a bank, and optional (but smart) for everyone else.

Setting it up

  1. Go to Settings, then Security, and choose two-factor authentication (or just connect a bank - the app will walk you through it).
  2. Scan the QR code with a free authenticator app: Google Authenticator, Authy, or your password manager. The entry appears as "KiwiBudget".
  3. Enter the 6 digit code the app shows to finish. Setup is only complete once a code has been accepted.

Signing in with 2FA

After your password, the app asks for the current code from your authenticator. Codes change every 30 seconds - always use the one showing right now.

Lost your authenticator?

Email support@kiwibudget.nz from your account email and we will verify it is you and help you regain access.
